Not only did she educate me, but she took me down to the shelter to see the harsh reality for myself. I chatted with Jennifer, inquiring about the dogs, and she explained how they were all rescues from the local kill-shelter, who she pulled off the “euth list.” Jennifer educated me on how many dogs enter the NYC municipal shelter system and never make it out alive. She was walking several Pit-Bulls in a local park. In 2007, I bumped into a high-school acquaintance, Jennifer Brooks. At the time, I had no idea about shelters or the need for rescue. When I was twenty-three, I was gifted my first dog, a Yorkie, from a pet store. I have struggled with anxiety from a young age, and Jasper provided me with comfort and peace. My uncle Anthony had a sweet dog named Jasper, and I was at his house any chance I could, spending time with sweet Jasper. Growing up, my parents would never allow me to have a pet. All of my life, I have always had a passion for animals. I am the Co-founder of NYC Second Chance Rescue. I thank you from the very bottom of my heart.” You are instrumental in the lives of these animals and my role as an animal rescuer. With the help of my amazing volunteers, team, and contributions I am able to do so much more. ![]() My role here at NYC Second Chance Rescue doesn’t stop at just being the President and Founder. Through partnerships with these shelters, the list of dogs and cats on the kill list has decreased significantly and so many more lives are being saved! There were 60 to 70 dogs and 100 plus cats on the kill list every single day!įast forward to today, NYC Second Chance Rescue, enables thousands of animals to receive urgent medical care and the second chance to thrive in their new life. In 2005, I learned about the Animal Care Centers in NYC and about all the innocent animals that were being euthanized because there weren’t enough resources or education about animal welfare. While other children were playing with dolls and Legos, I was pretending to answer the phones for an animal shelter.
